The Confucius Institute in Mahasarakham University was established with the assistance of the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), Guangxi University for Nationalities and Mahasarakham University.

Mahasarakham University is located in Kantarawichai District, Mahasarakham Province, in the center of Northeast Thailand. It occupies an area of 560 acres, has a group of highly qualified academic staffs and large number of educational facilities.

The Chinese language education and studies in Mahasarakham University are in the front row among the colleges in Northeast Thailand. There are 200 undergraduate students majoring in Chinese, and another 800 students taking Chinese in enrichment classes in the University.
