Three Gorges Museum

The Three Gorges Museum is on the western side of the Chongqing Great Hall of the People,and its predecessor is the Chongqing Municipal Museum.It is a public welfare institution devoted to the collection,protection,education,dissemination and scientific research of the cultural relics and speciments from the Three-gorge Reservoir Zone and Chongqing.Its main building is magnificent,showing the characteristics of the garden with hills and waters.At present,the Three-gorge Museum collects more than 100,000 cultural relics,such as vronze wares of Shu State during the Three Kingdoms period(220-280),artworks of the Han Dynasty(206B.C.-A.D.220),the paintings and calligraphic works by the ethnic minoritiesin Southwest China,presenting unique advantages and characteristics in the series of collections.Nearly 10,000 modern and contemporary cultural relics involve some important historical events,such as Chongqing opened its door to trade,the May 4th Movement in Sichuan AND Chongqing,and the development of Chongqing in the past century.Now the Three Gorges Muserm has become an important material evidence and memory of the development of Chongqing.

Chongqing Great Hall of the People

Situated in Xuetian Bay in Renmin Road,the Chongqing Great Hall of the People was first constructed in 1951,with a total floorage of 18,500 sq m.The Great Hall,65m high is a traditional symmetric building,matching with colonnades and double wings.It has a seating capacity of 4,200.The circle auditorium is surrounded by fivestouy stand which is protruded out.The whole building is in perfect proportion,with the roof covered with big green glazed tiles,red colonnades,white balustrades,painted pillars and carved beams.The Chongqing Great Hall of the People is gorgeous and majestic,showing the distinctive national style.

Shibaozhai

By the northern shore of the Yangtze River in Zhongxian County,Chongqing,Shibaozhai is 45 km from the county town of Zhongxian.The Shibaozhai Tower was built in line with the landform of Yuyin Mountain,with flying eaves and spread wings.It has a unique shape.Shibaozhai,a 12-story wooden structure,consists of the gate,the mountain stronghold and the tower,56 m high.It holds three sculpture groups:The fist group tells a stouy that BaManzi,a general of the state of Ba in ancient times,cut his head off to defend the city;the second tells how Zhang Fei,a general of the state of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period(220-280),subdued Yan Yan with justice;and the third sculpture group tells the stouy about Qin Liangyu,a heroion.The ancient temple at the top is called”Lanruo Hall.”At the foot of the mountain stronghold stands the ancient,unadorned and exquisite Shibao Street.
