With the old city as its center, the “Historic Center of Macao” clusters more than 20 historic buildings through its neighboring plazas and streets.
As an only item for China to apply for its becoming a world cultural heritage item in 2005, the “Historic Center of Macao” is approved to be included in the World Heritage List on the 29th Session of World Heritage Conference.
The boundary of the historic center starts from the Wangyang (Sea Overlooking) Hill in the east, arrives at Xinmalu (New Highway) Road close to the Internal Port Pier in the west, starts from Mage (Mazu Chamber) Hill in the south and arrives at White Dove Nest Park in the north, being the most ancient, largest-scale, most integrally preserved and most concentrated historic city center with buildings of both Chinese and Western features in coexistence, and being the crystallization of the Chinese-Western cultural exchange and multi-element coexistence more than 400 years.
