On July 1st, 2004, news from the 28th Session of the World Heritage Committee Conference held in Suzhou, China says that the “Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom in China”, main body located in Ji’an City, Jilin Province, has succeeded in applying for being included in the World Cultural Heritage List, thus the items of our country in the World Heritage List have increased to 30 pieces.
The reasons for the place’s being included in the list are: the architectural art being superb, being worthy to be called the model for the technology of the same time; the artistic achievements being outstanding, especially the frescos inside the tombs being able to embody the exquisite artistic level; and the civilization connotation being rich in characteristic features, a great number of the precious cultural relics being able to reflect the unique-characteristic civilization of the Koguryo Period.
A local political power of national minority in the history of our country, Koguryo existed and continued during the Han-Tang Period, and experienced approx 705 years altogether, creating splendid ancient civilization and leaving behind abundant historic remains and cultural relics in Jilin, Liaoning and other places.
