Zhangjiajie national forest park, inseparating with two natural reserves ---Suoxi Dale and Tianzi Mountain composes of Wulingyuan, which is the core of Zhangjiajie scenic spot. Wulingyuan lies in the middle part of wuling mountain chain, which goes through Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Sichuan provinces and so on. Wang Wei, a famous poet in Tang Dynasty, wrote the phase: “people live together in Wulingyuan, building their homes in the open fields”. In 1984, when Hu Yaobang was the chairman of our country, he inspected in the place and named the three famous scenic spots ---Zhangjiajie, Suoxi Dale and Tianzi Mountain as “Wulingyuan”. In 1988, when Dayong (now it is renamed Zhangjiajie) became prefecture-level city, Wulingyuan was specially designed as country-level administrative region with an area of 36 km2.
The four legends of Zhangjiajie are: sound, moon, shadow and light.
