Wushan, the eastern gate to the Chongqing Municipality, the pass of visiting the three Gorges, is an important county where the Yangtze Three Gorges reservoir area lies.

Wushan boosts a long history, colorful heritage and rich resources. According to research, Wushan Man lived here about 2.04 million years ago. They are the earliest men found living in the territory of China, nicknamed "the first erect Asian”.

Wushan has unique natural scenery. As a section of the famous three Gorges of the Yangtze River, Wushan possesses all the Wuxia Gorge and the majority of the Qutang Gorge. Flanked bycraggy peaks and grotesque rocks, it forms a meandering scenic gallery. It is famous for its deep valley, and soaring mountain peaks rising from the river's banks. It is a serene and secluded place which presents a panorama of lovely scenery. Within Wuxia Gorge are eight famous natural scenes, and twelve famous peaks, among which the most famous peak is Shennu. The beautiful scenes on both banks are too numerous for the eye to take in all at the same time. The marvelous change of clouds and rain is a most splendid view. Tang Dynasty poet Yuanji’s “The blue sea makes other waters unworthy of the name; After Wushan, all other clouds are mere puffballs above” has become eternal.

The main tourist attrations are: "Three Terraces and Eight Scenes" are covered with mysterious color. “Three Terraces” are Choushu Terrace, Chuyang Terrace and Zhanlong Terrace. "Eight Scenes” are “Nanling Morning in Spring”, “Sunset Reflection”, “Ninghe Ferry in the Evening”, “Qingxi Fishing”, “Chengtan Autumn Moon”, “Xiufeng Temple”, “Nuguan Stone” and “Terrace Watch Rain”.
