Jiuzhaigou is located in Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Zhou (Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture), Sichuan Province; it is a branch valley of Baihe River, the upstream of Baishui Valley. The name Jiuzhaigou (Chinese for Nine Village Valley) is derived from the 9 Tibetan villages that ae scatered throughout the valley. It is over 2000 meters above sea level. It has imposing landscapes, with majestic and unrivalled emerald lakes of more than 108, spectaculr waterfalls, colourful virgin forests ad snow peaks. Wuhuahai Lake (Five Flower Lake), Five Color Pool, Shuzheng Fall and Nuorilang Falls are among some of its spectacular scenery. To depict the diverse natural beauty of in one or two words is not nearly enough. “Fairyland” is perhaps the only word to choose. Jiuzhai Valley National Park is home to a number of endangered plant and animal species, including the Giant Panda, Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey, the Sichuan Takin and spotted deer. Jiuzhaigou is a national key scenic area and it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992; it was officially approved by the National Tourism Administration to be national AAAAA scenic area on May 8, 2007.
