On 26 December 2012, the New Year's Gala for ASEAN Students was held at the ASEAN-China Centre. ACC Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang inaugurated the event, together with H. E. Wiboon Khusakul, Ambassador of the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, Madame Zhang Xiuqin, Director General of the International Department of the Ministry of Education, China, and Prof. Li Yuming, President of the University Council of Beijing Language and Culture University.
About 100 ASEAN students, from Beijing Language and Culture University and other universities, participated and enjoyed the Gala with lively dances and songs. Diplomats from Embassies of ASEAN countries in Beijing were also present at the event.
The New Year's Gala for ASEAN Students, the first of its kind, is widely considered conducive to the promotion of the "ASEAN Identity" among the ASEAN students and the Chinese public.
