On 2 August 2013, ASEAN-China Centre Secretary General Ma Mingqiang attended the High-Level Forum on the 10th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand as an event to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership in 2013. The Forum was to review past achievements and explore how ASEAN and China could move their strategic Partnership forward to ensure continued peace, stability and sustainable growth in the region. It was also an opportunity for the participants to brainstorm, provide inputs and wisdoms on how to foster and sustain the spirit of partnership and strong determination of ASEAN and China in taking on emerging and existing challenges for the benefits of the peoples from both sides.
The Forum viewed that ASEAN-China dialogue relations is key for peace, stability and prosperity in the region. It is also the most dynamic and cooperative relations that ASEAN has with its dialogue partners. Despite all dimensions of cooperation, there remains some challenges for the future direction of ASEAN-China partnership. Mutual trust and confidence is key to enhance and strengthen relationship. The Forum also noted the close cooperation on cultural and people exchange between ASEAN and China. In this regard, the role of ACC and the movie industry in deepening mutual understanding and brining people of ASEAN and China closer together was highlighted.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul of Thailand and Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China presided over the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Thailand is the current country coordinator for ASEAN-China dialogue relations.
