From 1 to 6 December 2013, ASEAN-China Centre and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED) co-organized the ASEAN University Study Visit Programme to China, which was a follow-up event of the 6th ASEAN-China Education Cooperation Week as well as a joint project of ACC and RIHED in 2013.

The 25 delegates, including presidents, vice presidents and deans from 15 universities of Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Viet Nam, and officials of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia and RIHED, paid visits to Beijing, Tianjin and Shenyang. The visits aimed to learn about scientific research policies, high-tech personnel training and experience of integration of teaching, research and production in China and to explore the opportunities of cooperation.

On 2 December, ACC Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang met with the delegation, and elaborated on ACC's work to promote ASEAN-China cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. He hoped that SEAMEO and ASEAN universities could make joint efforts with ACC to carry out substantial and mutual beneficial education cooperation between ASEAN and China.

On 6 December, the programme ended in full success. The delegation expressed gratitude for ACC, Chinese education departments and universities for organizing this trip and for their warm hospitality. The delegates believed that the programme would promote substantial cooperation in scientific research and student exchanges between ASEAN and China. RIHED expressed that the programme strengthened mutual understanding and promoted cooperation between the two sides. RIHED would like to work closely with ACC to organize similar study programmes in the future.
