On 20 to 25 February 2014, ASEAN-Chine Centre (ACC) invited tour operators dealing with ASEAN countries, together with travel and air related media to Chiang Mai, Thailand. A total of 18 participants took part in the technical visit to the tourism resources in Chiang Mai, during which they discussed methods on promoting Thailand in China and facilitating the landing arrangements for Chinese tourists with local tourism authority and travel trade representatives.
Statistics show that in 2013 mainland Chinese travelers made a total of 4.01 million first-stop visitations to Thailand, an increase of 78.75% over 2012. In order to respond to the increasing demand on ASEAN tourism by Chinese travelers, Air China launched its first regular direct flight between Beijing and Chiang Mai since November 2013. This FAM tour was one of ACC’s endeavors to improve the capacity building for tourism professionals and create new ASEAN tourism products. This programme not only encouraged more people-to-people contact, but will also help boost the local and regional economies.
