On 10 March 2014, Ms. Lada Phumas, Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), received an exclusive interactive interview by Ms. Sopit Wangvivatana, an officer from the Thai Service of China Radio International (CRI).
As ACC's spokesperson, Director Lada introduced ACC as the only inter-governmental organization set up by the governments of ASEAN and China to the audience. ACC has important roles and duties as given by the 11 governments. During the past years up to present, ACC has proven to act as a one-stop information as well as an activities centre. It has conducted hundreds of activities and provides thousands of pieces of information to enhance ASEAN-China relations in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, as well as information and public relations.
There are also challenges for ACC, as a two-year old organization, to further improve its efficiency in terms of human resources capacity and result-based activities implementation to support significant initiatives set out by ASEAN and China as well as specific needs of some individual ASEAN Member States. ACC is always open to learn more from other successful international organizations and will work more effectively and productively to connect Chinese people to ASEAN and vice versa.
Director Lada highlighted some successful activities of ACC such as a launch of ASEAN-China Product Trade Centre in Yiwu, an establishment of ASEAN-China Language and Culture Centre at Beijing Language and Culture University, documentaries about ASEAN countries shown on CCTV during the Chinese Spring Festival, Chinese cultural performances and exhibitions in ASEAN, ASEAN Ambassadors Lecture Series as well as My ASEAN and China Multi-media Art Exhibitions in China.
The interview will be broadcast in Thai language, a part of which will be translated into Chinese and local ASEAN languages for wide dissemination. The interview is a part of ACC's efforts in working with the major Chinese media such as CRI to raise awareness about ASEAN-China relations and roles of ACC in China and ASEAN.
