At the invitation of ASEAN Secretariat and Department of Tourism, the Philippines, representatives of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) attended the 40th Meeting of ASEAN National Tourism Organizations, and the 25th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three National Tourism Organizations from 15 to 17 May 2014. ACC’s presentation at the Meeting focused on the implementation of a number of programs conducted by ACC by integrating various resources to promote ASEAN as travel destinations for Chinese tourists over the past months. The work and achievements of ACC were widely acknowledged and highly appreciated by the attending ASEAN delegates who were particularly grateful for the production of TV documentary airing on CCTV China’s national TV network. Some ASEAN Member States also showed their great interest to collaborate with ACC to carry out capacity building program for tourism professionals in their respective countries, as an important measure to improve the quality of service to deal with the growing Chinese tourists.
On 18 May 2014, ACC was also invited by the United Nations World Tourism Organization as observer to attend its 26th Joint Session of the Commission for East Asia and the Pacific & the Commission for South Asia. During the meeting, ACC representative briefed the Meeting on ACC’s objectives and accomplishments as well as willingness to collaborate with UNWTO for a more responsible and prosperous travel and tourism industry.
