PHNOM PENH, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has provided forestry equipment in equivalent to 4.1 million yuan (667, 200 U.S. dollars) to Cambodia for protecting and developing forest sector, officials said.
Song Xiaoguo, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, handed over the equipment to Ung Sam Ath, Deputy Chief of the Cambodia's Forestry Administration, under the presence of Cambodia's Secretary of State for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Ty Sokhun.
Speaking at the delivery ceremony, Song said eight types of equipment, including forest fire-fighting vehicles, forest patrol cars, and GPS devices, were delivered to the Cambodia's Forestry Administration.
"Forest is very important for humans, animals and environment," he said. "I believe that the equipment will help Cambodian forestry officials to work more effectively in protecting and developing forestry."
Ty Sokhun expressed profound thanks to the Chinese government and people for providing the equipment to Cambodia, noting that the equipment was very useful for the country to protect and preserve forest resources.
"On behalf of the Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their generous support to Cambodia in forestry protection," he said. "I hope that China will continue to assist Cambodia in the sector."
Meanwhile, he also highly spoke of excellent ties and cooperation between Cambodia and China in all fields, particularly politics, economics, trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, education and culture.
Ung Sam Ath said the equipment was a necessary need for Cambodia to serve forestry.
"The donation has clearly demonstrated China's attention to protecting Cambodia's forest resources," he said.
