Supported by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), 2014 the first Laos-China (Guangxi) Trade Fair was held in Vientiane from 5 to 9 September 2014. H.E. Mr. Guan Huabing, Chinese Ambassador to Laos, H.E. Mrs. Khemmani Pholsena, Lao Minister of Industry and Commerce (MOIC), Mr. Zhang Xiaoqing, Deputy Director-General of Guangxi Department of Commerce, Mr. Phanh Vilaysom, Acting Director-General, TPPD of Lao MOIC and Mr. Zhao Wenyu, Chinese Economic and Commercial Counsellor to Laos attended the opening ceremony of the Fair.
Upon the invitation of Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Laos, Department of Commerce and Bureau of International Expo Affairs of Guangxi, ACC as a supporting agency of the trade Fair, dispatched Mr. Mouavixay Palee, Deputy Director of Trade and Investment Division, to attend the Fair. It was the first trade fair that was co-hosted by Lao and Chinese governments, and both sides selected credible enterprises and competitive products to be exhibited at the Fair. Chinese delegation were composed of over 160 businesses from 64 well-known companies from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, including Liuzhou Automobile, Yuchai Machinery and Yulin pharmaceutic. The Fair attracted more than 100 Lao exhibitors to showcase Lao specialities. Both sides believed that the trade Fair would serve as a platform for Laos-China business communities to seek reliable business partners and potential opportunities.
Authorized by the MoU on Establishing the ACC, it is one of the ACC's top priorities carry out projects that help to find reliable trade partners and narrow the development gap between ASEAN Member States. From an initial stage of preparing the Fair's preparation, ACC had played an active role in facilitating all kinds of detailed arrangements. From selecting the venue, facilitating the VIP guests at the opening ceremony and finding the actual executor of the decoration, Mr. Palee worked as a liaison officer between Chinese organizer and Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce to ensure a smooth communication between the two sides and an effective implementation of the schedule.
After the opening ceremony, Ambassador Guan Huabing of China and Minister Khemmani Pholsena of Laos also toured the exhibition booths and talked with Lao and Chinese exhibitors. In their amicable conversations, Chinese exhibitors were welcomed to invest more in Laos and Lao exhibitors were encouraged to export more to Chinese market so as to strengthen a balanced and healthy economic cooperation between Laos and China.
