On 1 September 2014, the Information Sharing Session of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) was held in Guiyang International Eco-conference Center, Guizhou Province. It was one of series of activities during the 7th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), organized by ACC.
The information sharing session was chaired by Mr. Tri Purnajaya, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC. Ms. Lada Phumas, Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC briefed the participants on ACC’s roles in promoting functional cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, culture and tourism, while Mr. Wang Daoyu, Deputy Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, elaborated on ACC's programs and activities on education.
Mr. Wang Daoyu said, since the establishment in November 2011, the ACC has been working towards realizing the “one goal” as set by the leaders of ASEAN-China namely, double the 100,000 students mobility goal, meaning that the numbers of ASEAN and Chinese students studying in ASEAN Member States and China would reach the target of 100,000 by the year 2020. The ACC “three platforms” are China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and ASEAN-China Language and Culture Centre (ACLCC), working to serve the three groups of stakeholders, which are governmental education department, education institutions and students of China and ASEAN Member States, in promoting the education exchange.
Mr. Wang Daoyu said ACC had hosted a series of lectures 9 times for education officials from ASEAN Embassies and Consulate Generals to facilitate the double 100,000 students mobility goal, supported ASEAN students’ activities, including the Beijing ASEAN Students’ Games and ASEAN Students' New Year's Gala. ACC facilitated meetings to promote exchanges and cooperation between higher vocational technic education and polytechnic education, contributing to implement double 100,000 students mobility goal, implemented MoUS signed with Guizhou Provincial Department, together with SEAMEO supporting the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) for three years in a row; developing and deepening the cooperation partnership with SEAMEO, establishing ASEAN-China Education Research Network and SEAMEO-ACC Sports Education Innovation Award, partnering with Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) in establishing the ASEAN-China Language and Culture Centre, organizing various ASEAN students' activities, facilitating the opening of more ASEAN countries’ language classes, organizing ASEAN-China exchange visits, as well as other related activities. In the field of vocational technical education and training, ACC organized 4 groups of Chinese Vocational Colleges’ ASEAN Tour activities, covering all the 10 ASEAN Member States, received 3 groups of ASEAN vocational education delegation to visit China. The total delegation of vocational colleges that ACC facilitated are 90 from China, and 250 from ASEAN. More than 288 MoUs were signed between ASEAN-China TVET institutions, and at least 160 scholarship programmes for ASEAN students to study in Chinese top vocational colleges have been awarded. ACC also helped channel 1.2 million RMB worth of training equipments donated to 5 ASEAN countries.
Mr. Wang Daoyu stated ACC would continue to serve the governments, institutions and students of China and ASEAN Member States, help realize double 100,000 students' mobility goal, develope and utilize the three platforms, namely, CAECW, SEAMEO and ACLCC, and continue to promote functional cooperation in vocational education between China and ASEAN.
At this Information Sharing Session, a number of ACC partners participated and delivered remarks on their cooperation with ACC. Among them were, Mr. Liu Jianfeng, Vice President of National Institute of Education and Science (NIES), Mr. Lin Yue, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange of Jiangsu Provincial Department, Mr. Chen Jinhe, Executive Vice President of Tianjin International Chinese College, Mr. Chen Jiquan, Chairman of Zhejiang Yalong Educational Equipment Joint-Stock Co., Ltd., and Mr. Wang Feihu, General Manager of Tai’ao Sports company.
At the end of the Session, Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang, on behalf of ACC signed MoUs with Mr. Shen Jian, Head of Jiangsu Provincial Education Department and Mr. Chen Jiquan, Chairman of Zhejiang Yalong Educational Equipment Joint-Stock Co., Ltd. respectively.
