Representing the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Mr. Wang Daoyu, Deputy Director of the Education, Culture and Tourism Division (ECTD), participated in the 5th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting in Education (SOM-ED+3) and the 2nd ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers Meeting (APT EMM) from 9 to 12 September 2014 in Vientiane, Lao PDR, at the invitation of Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos, the host country of the ASEAN Education Ministers serial meetings. Senior officials and ministers of education from ASEAN countries, as well as those from China, Korea and Japan participated in the meetings.
During the 5th SOM-ED+3, Mr. Wang made a presentation on the work of ACC, its work in education, particularly its cooperation with SEAMEO Secretariat and its regional centres, including development of the two joint projects: "Establishment of the SEAMEO-ACC Network on Education Research and the Compilation of SEAMEO-China Guide on Education System and Reform", and the "SEAMEO-ACC Award on School Sports Education Innovation".
During the 2nd APT EMM, Mr. Wang worked with the Chinese delegation and helped Ms. Chen Yinghui, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, MOE, Head of the Chinese delegation, to introduce the active and fruitful work of the ACC in education in the past three years to the education ministers from ASEAN countries.
On the sidelines of the meetings, Mr. Wang also talked extensively on ACC with the representatives from the countries such as Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines. He also visited the Technical and Vocational Education Department, Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR and talked with Mr. Phouvieng Phoumilay, Deputy Director-General, about the Lao TVET delegation scheduled to attend the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) World Congress 2014 in late October in Beijing and visit TVET institutions in Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces.
During the welcome dinner, Mr. Wang talked with H. E. Mr. Guan Huabin, Chinese Ambassador to Laos, and briefed him about ACC and its work in education, recent work in Laos and sought support and guidance from the Ambassador and the Chinese Embassy.
