During the 7th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), the Education Department of Guizhou Province and Guiyang Pre-school Education College co-organized the 6th “My ASEAN and China” Multimedia Art Exhibition Series “Colorful Symphony: Wonderful ASEAN and China” on 1-3 September 2014 at Guiyang International Eco-conference Centre. The Multimedia Art Exhibition exhibited 110 photos of important landmarks, interesting daily life, tradition and custom of ASEAN and China through the eyes of Ms. Rita Zhao, a renowned photographer who has a great passion and love about these countries, as well as videos to promote tourism destinations in some ASEAN countries.
The opening ceremony of the 6th Multimedia Art Exhibition Series was successfully held on 1 September 2014 and attended by high-level officials from ASEAN and China, and hundreds of students & participants who were interested in the Exhibition. The high-level participants included H.E. Mr. Pit Chamnan, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia, Mr. Wisanu Edi Pratignyo, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, Mr. Zhang Qunshan, Deputy Director of Guizhou Province Standing Committee, Ms. Mao Youbi, Vice Mayor of Guiyang, Mr. Huo Jiankang, Director of Education Department of Guizhou Province, Ms. He Yongqing, President of Guiyang Pre-school Education College and ACC Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang.
As the host of the opening ceremony, President He Yongqing of Guiyang Pre-school Education College welcomed all interested guests to visit the Multimedia Art Exhibition and spoke highly of the exhibition as a platform for displaying histories and cultures of ASEAN countries and China which would help promote good neighborliness and friendship between ASEAN and China. The College was pleased to be a significant part of this project and had been working with great efforts with ACC to ensure the success of the event.
Mr. Zhang Qunshan, Deputy Director of Guizhou Province Standing Committee, delivered a speech, mentioning about background and development of CAECW as an annual channel for pragmatic cooperation to deepen China-ASEAN relations. CAECW has been proven to be an important platform for academic & scientific research institutions and students exchange between China and ASEAN. Guizhou is also the annual host of tourism industry development conference which offers opportunities for Guizhou to learn from the participants in order to elevate its tourism industry. He welcomed ACC’s initiative for convening the 6th multimedia art exhibition series, while noted also that ACC in collaboration with Guizhou Province actively co-organized the 5th multimedia art exhibition series under the theme "The Abode of Peace: Brunei" in 2013.
Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang, in his opening remarks, touched upon development and achievements of ASEAN-China relations during the past 10 years of their strategic partnership, as well as future cooperation between ASEAN and China as they are entering the first year of a diamond decade, a new phase of the cooperation. He introduced ACC as an inter-governmental organization set up by the 11 governments of ASEAN and China and as a one-stop information and activities centre to promote ASEAN-China relations in trade, investment, education, tourism and culture. Education is one of the key areas which ACC has put great efforts to ensure that it remains to be an important tool to enhance mutual trust and effectively link the peoples of ASEAN and China. ACC supported a convening of the cultural events such as the multimedia art exhibition series as a part of the CAECW, which would offer a new dimension to the annual CAECW. In addition, the 6th multimedia art exhibition series “Colorful Symphony: Wonderful ASEAN and China” was convened in light of a devotion of China and ASEAN for 2014 ASEAN-China Cultural Exchange Year. Secretary-General Ma wished the event would help create mutual trust and prepare the peoples of ASEAN and China for a brighter cooperation in the future. He also expressed his wishes for all and everyone to help support and push forward ASEAN-China relations and bring the relations to a higher stage.
The 110-photo exhibition was once successfully displayed at ACC Headquarters in Beijing for one month from June to July 2014 and was the first photo exhibition, organized by ACC, encompassing photos from all 10 ASEAN countries as well as China which reflected good and close friendship between ASEAN and China.
The 6th Multimedia Art Exhibition Series on 10 ASEAN countries and China was one in the series to demonstrate an active role of ACC in enhancing better understanding about ASEAN and China as well as raising awareness on ASEAN-China relations. In the past years, ACC has cooperated with Ms. Rita Zhao in organizing "My ASEAN & China" Multimedia Art Exhibition Series on "Magical Malaysia", "Khmer Smile: Cambodia", "Charming Viet Nam", "The Abode of Peace: Brunei" and "Peaceful Laos" in various cities of China to allow the Chinese colleagues and friends to admire the beauty and charm on ASEAN countries.
