ACC Successfully Held a Prize-awarding Ceremony of “ACC Cup - Understanding ASEAN-China Relations” Essay Contest (2)

 

At the prize-awarding ceremony of "ACC Cup - Understanding ASEAN-China Relations" essay contest on 23 October 2014 at ACC ASEAN Hall, the Host informed all participants that by the deadline of essay submission on 31 July 2014, ACC received 168 qualified essays from the students in 17 universities. By the end of September 2014, 21 Prize Winners were selected through a reliable grading system putting forwarded to the officials from ASEAN Embassies in Beijing, on behalf of the ASEAN Ambassadors, who were the honorary judges of the contest. Ms. He Yujia and Ms. Xiao Li from Southwest University of Petroleum won the first prizes for their Chinese and English essays, entitled "China-ASEAN Tourism Development and Mutual Prosperity" and "Brief Talk about the Relations between China and ASEAN" respectively.

 

The VIP guests were invited to cordially present the trophies and ACC certificates to 14 prize-winners who were present at ACC ASEAN Hall on that day.

At this historical event, ACC also launched "ACC Cup - Understanding ASEAN-China Relations" Essay Contest and Collection booklet, containing background information about ACC, an implementation of the ACC Cup project, a snapshot introduction of the participating universities, list of the prize winners and selected winning essays both in Chinese and English for reference. ACC widely distributed this "ACC Essay Collection" booklet to all participants to the ceremony, ASEAN Embassies in Beijing, related Chinese institutes, universities and authorities, as well as ASEAN and Chinese representatives from the Committee of Permanent Representative (CPR) in Jakarta, who came to visit ACC Secretariat on 22 October 2014.

 

The prize-awarding ceremony was followed by Q&A session during which the students inquired more about ASEAN-China relations on trade, investment and culture, as well as ACC's roles to promote education cooperation and exchange between the students from China and ASEAN.

 

The ceremony was a memorable moment for the awarded prize-winners and the participating students. It reiterated the significance of ASEAN-China relations in bilateral, regional and international arena. More importantly it has helped increase young and younger friends and allies for the relationship. The ceremony was the final activity of the essay contest process, organized by ACC, starting from a series of lectures on "ASEAN-China Relations" by Ms. Lada Phumas, Director, and Ms. Cao Ting, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Division (IPRD) of ACC, from May to July 2014, at 10 universities around China, including Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, Southwest Petroleum University, Chengdu, Yangtze Normal University, Chongqing, Dalian Jiaotong University, Dalian, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, Ningbo University of Technology, Ningbo, Qinghai University for Nationalities, Xining, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi’an, Xi'an University of Posts & Telecommunications, Xi’an and Henan University of Technology, Zhengzhou. The lectures were proven to be beneficial in preparing the interested students to join the essay contest.
