On 24th of November 2014, the ACC-SEAMEO Sports Education Innovation Award Selection Meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand. The Selection Committee was composed of representatives of ACC, SEAMEO and the Secretary-General of Asian School Sports Federation(ASSF). Among the 30 short-listed entries, the Committee selected First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize winners respectively for primary and secondary schools. Each of the 6 recipient schools will be awarded with a Plaque of Recognition and a combination of sports facilities and equipment worth of 100,000, 60,000, and 40,000 RMB yuan respectively. ASSF also set up special awards for one primary school and one secondary school, in order to encourage and promote innovation in sports education in Southeast Asia. The Award Granting Ceromony will be held in conjunction with the Southeast Education Ministers Council Conference to be held in Bangkok, in the April of 2015. Mr Tri Purnajaya, the Director of Education Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, and Ms Sun Xuejing, the Education Officer of ACC, participated in the Meeting as Committee members.
Under the theme "Amity, Creativity and Development through School Sports", the 2014 SEAMEO-ACC Sports Education Innovation Award was initially launched in last May, aiming to recognize primary and secondary schools in ASEAN countries that have exemplary projects or activities in those aspects. The first ever Award activity was highly anticipated, where more than 100 application forms were submitted from primary and secondary schools in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Thailand and Singapore.
Beijing Taiao Sports Culture Development Co., Ltd. will sponsor the sports equipment and shoulder the costs of the awardees for their trip to Bangkok. Taiao, an official partner of ACC since 2012, has pledged to donate sports equipment worth of 10,000,000 RMB yuan to ACC for ASEAN-China cooperation and exchanges in Education. This Award will also help raise the level of awareness of ASEAN-China relations and the role of ACC among primary and secondary students.
