In the evening of 28 December 2014, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) held the "New Year’s Gala for ASEAN Students" at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) which was participated by more than 300 ASEAN students from over 30 universities in Beijing. The Gala was attended by Mr. Ma Mingqiang, Secretary-General of ACC, Mr. Wang Luxin, Vice President of BLCU, representatives from the Ministry of Education of China, as well as education officers from the ASEAN Embassies in Beijing namely, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. News reporters from media of China and Viet Nam were also present to cover the event.
At the Gala, the students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam entertained the audience with various traditional as well as contemporary music and dancing performances of their respective countries, as well as songs in Chinese. The students were also captivated with the lucky draws in which the prizes were provided by ACC and Garuda Indonesia Airline. All the students were extremely happy with the New Year's Gala and wished that they could take part in the next year's. As a symbol of sincere gratitude, a representative from the ASEAN Students' Associations presented the Secretary-General Ma with a bouquet of flowers. In his address, Secretary-General Ma briefly introduced the latest development of ASEAN-China relations, and highlighted some new important proposals such as a building of the ASEAN-China Community of Common Destiny and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, adding new incentives for ASEAN-China relations. He hoped that ASEAN students studying in China could cherish the opportunity and make their own contribution for an everlasting ASEAN-China relations in the future.
Since its establishment in 2011, ACC has attached great emphasis on supporting ASEAN students' activities in China. ACC has held three new year’s gala for ASEAN students for 3 consecutive years, two sports games events for ASEAN students, and provided sports equipment, gifts and venues for various activities for ASEAN students. ACC has pledged its continuous support for ASEAN students' activities in the future.
