On 5 March 2015, Mr. Li Rongcan, Deputy Governor of Gansu Province paid a visit to ASEAN-China Centre (ACC). Ms. Huang Ying, Acting Secretary-General,Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division of ACC, Mr. Li Yuan, Director of Trade and Investment of ACC, and other officials of ACC, exchanged views with the delegation.
Director Huang Ying briefed on ACC’s efforts in promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. She expressed ACC’s willingness to cooperate with Gansu Province in facilitating the latter’s participation in ASEAN-China cooperation.
Mr. Li Rongcan said, Gansu Province, as a significant junction in the ancient silk road, will play an important role in China’s current strategy “One Belt, One Road”. Since ASEAN is the priority in building the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century, Gansu is facing a great opportunity to enhance cooperation with ASEAN. In recent years, benefited from the platforms of China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, ASEAN-China Expo, etc., Gansu has built a solid foundation in trade cooperation with ASEAN, especially in the trading of Chinese herbal medicine and fruits. He believes Gansu province and ASEAN have great potential in trade and investment cooperation, for their economy are complimentary to each other. He sincerely hopes that ACC could mobilize its resources to help attract ASEAN enterprises to cooperate with Gansu province.
Director Li Yuan said, ACC, as an intergovernmental international organization, is committed to promoting functional cooperation between ASEAN and China. In the areas of trade and investment, it is one of ACC’s priority to promote local government’s participation in ASEAN-China cooperation. ACC is willing to cooperate with Gansu province, to help the local enterprises go into ASEAN countries, and attract ASEAN investment come into Gansu province. As the co-organizer of the 21st China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, ACC will coordinate with the Bureau of Economic Cooperation of Gansu Province, to invite ASEAN enterprises to set stalls in the Fair.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen exchanges and continue to study possible cooperation programmes, with a view to further boost ASEAN-China.
