On 5 March 2015, Mr. Li Rongcan, Vice Governor of Gansu Province, paid a visit to ASEAN-China Centre (ACC). Ms. Huang Ying, Acting Secretary-General,Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division (GACD), Mr. Li Yuan, Director of Trade and Investment Division (TID) of ACC, and relevant officials of ACC, exchanged views with the delegation.
Ms. Huang Ying briefed on ACC’s efforts in promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. She expressed ACC’s willingness to cooperate with Gansu Province in facilitating the latter’s improvement in ASEAN-China cooperation.
Mr. Li Rongcan said Gansu Province, as a significant junction in the ancient silk road, would play an important role in China’s current strategy “One Belt, One Road”. Since ASEAN is the priority in building the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century, Gansu has a great opportunity to enhance cooperation with ASEAN. In recent years, benefiting from the platforms of China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, ASEAN-China Expo, etc., Gansu has built a solid foundation in trade cooperation with ASEAN, especially in the trading of Chinese herbal medicine and fruits. He believed Gansu Province and ASEAN had great potential in trade and investment cooperation, for their economies were complimentary to each other. He sincerely hopes that ACC could mobilize its resources to help attract ASEAN enterprises to cooperate with Gansu Province.
Mr. Li Yuan said, ACC, as an inter-governmental organization, was committed to promoting functional cooperation between ASEAN and China. In the areas of trade and investment, it was one of ACC’s priority to promote local government’s involvement in ASEAN-China cooperation. ACC was willing to cooperate with Gansu province, to help the local enterprises get into ASEAN countries, and attract ASEAN investment to Gansu Province. As the co-organizer of the 21st China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, ACC would coordinate with the Bureau of Economic Cooperation of Gansu Province, to invite ASEAN enterprises to set up stalls at the Fair.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen exchanges and continue to explore possible cooperation programmes, with a view to further boosting ASEAN-China relations.
