On 27 March 2015, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) participated in the unveiling ceremony of ACNET-EngTech (ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchanges among Engineering and Technology Universities) and China-ASEAN Maritime Silk Road Cultural Festival. The representatives from 10 Chinese universities, including E9 member units and Guangxi University, and 7 ASEAN universities, namely Svay Rieng University, Mean Chey University, Asian Institute of Cambodia, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Savannakhet University, Chulalongkorn University, and Mahidol University attended the Ceremony. H.E. Mr. Somdy Bounkhoum, Ambassador of Lao PDR to China and his spouse, Dr. Chantavit Sujatanond, Special Adviser of SEAMEO RIHED, Ms. Chen Yinghui, Deputy Director of International Department of MOE, China, Ms. Fan Yingzi, Vice Inspector of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Mr. Liu Jianping, Chairman of Council of Tianjin University, as well as the Officials from the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines and Embassy of Lao PDR, Tianjin Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Tianjin Municipal Education Commission participated in the unveiling ceremony. Ms. Huang Ying, Acting Secretary-General and Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division (GACD) of ACC made a speech at the Ceremony.
Acting Secretary-General Huang YIng extended congratulations at the Unveiling Ceremony of the ACNET-EngTech Secretariat and the China-ASEAN Maritime Silk Road Cultural Festival, and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to those who have worked hard to facilitate the joint effort. She said that to promote ASEAN-China cooperation in Education, ACC had embarked and would continue to conduct a series of activities, and among them was promoting “double the 100,000 students mobility goal” between ASEAN and China by 2020. ACC has made great efforts to facilitate cooperation between more than 400 Chinese and ASEAN education institutions and developed new platforms, namely, ASEAN-China Education Research Network, ASEAN-China TVET Mechanism for Cooperation and Exchanges, as well as ACNET-EngTech, which have become very useful. She believed that ACNET-EngTech would become the bridge to enhance exchanges in the area of technology and engineering that advocated transfer of technology and talents between ASEAN and China, for the benefit of societies of the two sides. ACC would continue to support the work of ACNET-EngTech, and remained committed to promoting functional cooperation in education as well as people-to-people exchanges between ASEAN and China.
To mark the formal establishment of ACNET-EngTech Secretariat, all the guests of honor at the Ceremony were invited to cut the ribbon. To spice up the event, the ASEAN students from Chinese E9 universities presented the audience with a variety of performances. In the cultural festival, ASEAN students of Tianjin University from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Thailand and Viet Nam opened up their respective booths and exhibited promotional and cultural materials for other students and guests to enjoy and better understand ASEAN cultures.
During the event, Acting Secretary-General Huang Ying received a shortinterview from the Tianjin TV Station. The representatives from ACC also visited the History Museum of Tianjin University. Tianjin University or also known as Peiyang University is a prominent university under MOE since its establishment on 2 October in 1895. It is the first University in China that plays an important role in modern Chinese higher education. It is also among the first group of universities to be included into the "211" and "985" Projects of national investment for developing world class universities.
ACNET-EngTech (ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchanges among Engineering and Technology Universities) is a non profit organization comprising the Chinese Excellent Alliance of Universities (E9) and 8 ASEAN universities on a voluntary basis, Initiated and supported jointly by E9, ACC and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED), with the aim of promoting ASEAN-China culture and talents exchanges, as well as education and science cooperation, establishing education cooperation mechanism for ASEAN-China regional engineering, to benefit common development of bilateral economies and societies. The member universities of ACNET-EngTech is as below:
