On 31 July 2015, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Director of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), on the sidelines of the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Principal Summit in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
Dr. Gatot highly appreciated the efforts and support from Secretary-General Yang Xiuping and ACC in promoting ASEAN-China education cooperation, especially in organizing the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Principal Summit. He briefed on SEAMEO’s work in promoting development of education, science and culture for Southeast Asian countries, and in narrowing the gaps among the member countries. He expressed that SEAMEO had attached great attention in collaboration with ACC, and would continue to cooperate with ACC in the education projects including vocational education, and jointly make contribution to deepening and strengthening ASEAN-China education cooperation.
Secretary-General Yang expressed her gratitude for SEAMEO’s support to the Summit, and highly praised the remarkable achievements of ACC-SEAMEO education collaboration in recent years. ASEAN-China dialogue relations had developed significantly both in-depth and all-round dimensions, which provided greater potential and brighter prospects for ASEAN-China education cooperation. She reiterated ACC, together with SEAMEO, would remain committed to enhancing functional cooperation in education, especially vocational education, in order to benefit both sides in boosting outstanding talents in economic and social development, and contribute to the deepening of the development of China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership.
