On 27 July 2015, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with Mr. Gerard Ho Wei Hong, Director-General of ASEAN Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and Mr. Yeo Whee Jim, Senior Director of Arts and Heritage Division of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) of Singapore, in Singapore.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping expressed that ASEAN and China enjoyed close, multi-faceted and all-dimensional cooperation. 2016 would mark the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations. ASEAN-China relations would embrace new opportunities for further development.
Secretary-General Yang briefed on the mandate and work of ACC, highlighting that ACC would actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of ASEAN and China, work harder to promote functional cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and tourism, so as to contribute to ASEAN-China relations. Singapore would assume the country coordinator for ASEAN-China relations since August 2015. ACC would work harder to promote the sustained development of ASEAN-China relations.
Both Director-Generals highly commended the remarkable achievements of ACC, and opined that ACC’s work was in line with ASEAN Community building, ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and ASEAN-China people-to-people exchanges. It was expected that ACC, standing at a higher starting point, would make greater contribution to the next 10-year development of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership. Singapore, as the incoming country coordinator for ASEAN-China relations, would maintain close communication and coordination with China, and hoped that ACC would continue its good work, so as to jointly promoting ASEAN-China relations.
