ACC Participated in the 9th Meeting of Directors-General of Higher Education in Southeast Asia

The ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) participated in the 9th Meeting of Directors-General/Secretary General/Commissioner of Higher Education in Southeast Asia, which was held in Vientiane, Laos, on 7 July 2015. The Meeting was the Annual Review Meeting for Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED). ASEAN countries that participated in the Meeting were Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. The Vice Minister of Education of Laos Sengdeuane Lachanthaboune and the Director of SEAMEO Secretariat Dr. Gatot Priowijanto were among the participants and addressed at the Meeting. The representative of ACC was Ms. Sun Xuejing, the Education Officer. 

Director of SEAMEO RIHED Dr. Chantavit Sujatanond informed the Meeting of the SEAMEO RIHED’s efforts in promoting regional higher education cooperation and the initiated programs, including some collaborative projects with ACC, such as the ASEAN-China Cooperation Network for Technological and Engineering Universities which was officially established in March 2015 in Tianjin and up to now covering 17 top notch universities from ASEAN and China. ACC and SEAMEO RIHED had also been conducted the ASEAN Universities President Study Visit to China for the last 2 years, and had been playing an active role in the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) since 2012.

During the Meeting, ACC representative shared ACC's work in the realm of higher education, answered questions from officials joining the ASEAN-China Cooperation Network for Technological and Engineering Universities and strengthening cooperation with Chinese Universities, and expressed that ACC would cordially and continuously support SEAMEO RIHED-ACC collaborative projects, including the upcoming 3rd ASEAN Universities President Study Visit to China to be held in Guangxi this November.

The Meeting also reviewed the Annual Plan of SEAMEO and the implementation of its projects. The next Directors-General of Higher Education in Southeast Asia Meeting will be held in Myanmar in May 2016.
