On 31 July 2015, the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Principal Summit, co-hosted by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education (JPDE) and ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ACC, Mr. Ding Xiaochang, Deputy Director-General of JPDE, Mr. Xu Ming, Deputy Mayor of Suzhou and Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Director of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) attended the Opening Ceremony and respectively delivered remarks. More than 200 participants, including vocational education principals, experts, government officials and entrepreneurs from ASEAN and China attended the event.
When delivering the Welcome Speech, Secretary-General Yang extended her congratulations to the Opening of the Summit. She expressed that the leaders of ASEAN and China had achieved substantial consensus on further deepening the cooperation, such as building a Community of Common Destiny and "One Belt One Road" as well as implementing 2+7 Cooperation Framework. By the end of this year, the ASEAN Community would be fully realized, and next year would mark the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations. ASEAN and China cooperation would have greater potential and brighter prospects.
Secretary-General Yang elaborated that education benefited almost 2 billion people of the 11 countries of ASEAN Member States and China. Vocational education was of great significance to a country and an individual. Strengthening ASEAN-China vocational education cooperation would benefit both sides in boosting outstanding talents in economic and social development, facilitating labour force to be employed and self-employed, and promoting the building of "One Belt One Road", so as to enhance ASEAN-China mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
Secretary-General Yang and the participants from ASEAN and China visited Suzhou Vocational University, Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute and Suzhou Tourism & Finance Institute. On the sidelines of the Summit, Secretary-General Yang also received interviews by the media such as the Guangming Daily, Suzhou TV and Suzhou Education TV.
