On 23 July 2015, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with journalists and editors from 16 Chinese media agencies such as People.com, China.com, China Radio International (CRI), China News Service, China Report Magazine, China-ASEAN Panorama Magazine, etc.. Secretary-General Yang expressed her appreciation to the Chinese media for their contributions in promoting ASEAN-China mutual understanding and friendship. She pointed out that the media had been playing more important role in promoting bilateral cooperation and people-to-people exchanges under the new development of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership, and ACC looked forward to further strengthening exchanges with the Chinese media and would like to acilitate ASEAN-China information and media cooperation.
Secretary-General Yang gave an introduction on the work of ACC, which had been completed with great achievements since ACC's establishment in 2011 to promote ASEAN-China cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, information and public relations. Afterwards she had warm interactions with the media friends on the topics relating to the vision of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership in its Diamond Decade, ASEAN Community building, ASEAN and China jointly building of "One Belt One Road", negotiation on upgrading of ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (CAFTA), as well as how to strengthen ASEAN-China cooperation in the fields of youth, think tanks, education and information exchanges.
Secretary-General Yang highlighted that as the only inter-governmental organization co-founded by the governments of 10 ASEAN Member States and China, ACC would devote itself to implementing the initiatives of the leaders of China and ASEAN, keep pace with times and make more innovative and pioneering efforts to further promote ASEAN-China relation, so as to better serve the 11 governments and 2 billion peoples of China and ASEAN. She expected the media, as "folk friendship envoys", could carry out fair and objective reports on ASEAN-China cooperation and contribute to the further development of ASEAN-China relations. The participants expressed that the meeting was fruitful, and hoped to further strengthen the communication and cooperation with ACC.
Ms. Lada Phumas, Director of Information and Public Relations Division (IPRD), and Ms. Huang Ying, Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division (GACD), of ACC also joined the meeting.
