ACC Secretary-General Attended the Opening Ceremony of the 8th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week

On 3 August 2015, the Opening Ceremony of the 8th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the Ministry of Education of China and the Government of Guizhou Province and co-sponsored by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), was held in Guiyang, Guizhou Province.

Mr. Hao Ping, Vice Minister of Education presided over the Opening Ceremony of the 8th CAECW. Mr. Liu Xiaofeng, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) announced the Opening of the 8th CAECW. Mr. Chen Miner, Secretary of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Guizhou Province delivered a welcome speech. More than 1,200 participants, including H.E. Mr. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Mr. Getachew Engida, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education of China, and Mr. Qian Hongshan, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China delivered speeches. Vice Minister of Education of Laos, Director of Education Centre of Brunei Darussalam, Ambassadors of Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand to China, representatives from the Philippines and Singapore, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ACC, Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Director of SEAMEO, education officials specially invited from Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Switzerland, and experts, scholars and student representatives from China and ASEAN, attended the event.  

During the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Getachew Engida, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education of China, Mr. Qian Hongshan, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and Mr. Chen Miner, Secretary of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Guizhou Province, unveiled the plate of the Association of China-ASEAN Education and Training Centre. 

ACC hosted or co-hosted a series of meetings during the 8th CAECW, such as China-ASEAN Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Expo, China-ASEAN Innovation Achievements Expo in Marine Science and Technology, the 1st Plenary Meeting of the Association of China-ASEAN Education and Training Centre, the 2nd Meeting of the Southeast Asia-China Education Research Network & the Book Launch Meeting of the Guidebook to Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia and China.

Secretary-General Yang and Mr. Getachew Engida, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO presented the Chinese version of the Guidebook to Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia to Mr. Xiao Qian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Mme. Chen Yinghui, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and representatives of the Organizing Committee, and Mr. Huo Jiankang, Director-General of the Department of Education of Guizhou. The book was authorized by UNESCO International Bureau of Education, translated by ACC and published by China Education Science Publishing House. Over 1,500 books were handed to the Organizing Committee of the 8th CAECW by ACC and were widely welcomed by the participants.
