ACC Secretary-General Met with ASEAN Foundation Executive Director

On 25 September 2015, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with ASEAN Foundation Executive Director Ms. Elaine Tan in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Secretary-General Yang made a brief introduction about ACC’s work, expressing that the year 2016 would mark the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations. Both sides would hold a series of commemorative activities. China proposed to designate next year as ASEAN-China Educational Exchange Year. ASEAN-China relations stood at a new starting point. ACC and ASEAN Foundation shared similar responsibilities to foster mutual understanding and boost friendly cooperation between ASEAN and China. As an important ASEAN organization, ASEAN Foundation had made remarkable progress in social and cultural exchanges. ACC expected to strengthen communication with ASEAN Foundation, jointly participate in the 25th anniversary commemorative activities, deepen cooperation in education, culture, tourism, media and other areas, and contribute to the further development of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership.

Executive Director Elaine Tan expressed that ASEAN Foundation was committed to fostering ASEAN identity, engaging in social and cultural activities, and encouraging non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil societies to participate in ASEAN Community building process. ASEAN Foundation was willing to enhance contact with ACC, share experience, participate in the 25th anniversary commemorative activities, promote cooperation in socio-cultural, media, creative industry, etc., so as to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between ASEAN and China.
