On 21 September 2015, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping attended a welcoming ceremony for the visiting delegation of officials from Mekong countries in Bejing and delivered remarks.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping warmly welcomed the delegation on behalf of ACC, and highlighted that inviting officials from Mekong countries to visit China was one of ACC’s efforts to push forward exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN and China. She hoped that the participants could understand better of China through this visit, and have more ideas and suggestions on promoting ASEAN-China cooperation, especially on Lancang-Mekong Dialogue and Cooperation. She wished the visit would serve as a good opportunity for deepening mutual understanding and promoting functional cooperation between Mekong countries and China. Secretary-General Yang also briefed the main functions of ACC and its role in promoting ASEAN-China functional cooperation, and introduced recent development of ASEAN-China relations and the mechanism of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation.
The participants thanked Secretary-General Yang and ACC for organizing the visit and warm reception. They expected to have deeper understanding of the development and changes of China through the visit, and expressed their willingness to contribute to ASEAN-China cooperation, especially Lancang-Mekong Dialogue and Cooperation.
The visit was sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and organized by ACC on 21-27 September 2015. The participants were officials from the governments of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Offcials from the Asian Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Viet Nam in China also attended the welcoming ceremony. Besides Beijing, the delegation would also visit Xi’an and Shanghai.
