On 9-12 September 2015, the Preview Workshop of ASEAN-China Entrepreneurs (ACE) Conference was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. H.E. Mr. Haji Mohamad Morshidi, Secretary of Sarawak State of Malaysia, H.E. YBhg. Datu Dr. Shen Guixian, Senator of Malaysian Parliament, H.E. Mr. Liu Quan, Consul-General of Consulate of China in Kuching, and Mr. David Zhou, Organizing Chairman of ACE Conference, attended the Opening Ceremony and delivered opening remarks for the Workshop.
H.E. Mr. Haji Mohamad Morshidi congratulated the opening of the Workshop and expressed that Sarawak was the biggest State of Malaysia with political stability and harmonious people as well as rich in natural recourses. The State was undertaking the plan of Building Energy Corridor of Sarawak. Strengthening cooperation between China and ASEAN entrepreneurs would be significantly beneficial for the economic development of Sarawak State. Its government and line agencies would make all efforts to provide foreign and domestic investors in Sarawak with efficient service and thoughtful support.
H.E. Mr. Liu Quan introduced “One Belt One Road” initiative to the enterprises. He explained that the initiative was inconformity with the needs of the adjustment of China’s national economic reform as well as the development trend of slow recovery of international economy. He also touched upon the current bilateral trade and investment cooperation between China and Malaysia and proposed proactive suggestions on future cooperation in trade, investment, culture as well as tourism between Sarawak and China.
Dr. Shen Guixian pointed out that Malaysia was the first country of ASEAN Member States to establish its diplomatic relations with China. Malaysia and China were friendly neighbors with close economic ties whereby trade and investment cooperation had been rapidly developed. The realization of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) was around the corner. The AEC would be very important for the development of each ASEAN Member State as well as the region and it would be the second largest Community after the EU in the world. The population of ASEAN reached more than 600 million, over 60 percent of which were young and full of vitality.
Mr. David Zhou stated that the goal of holding the Conference was to provide a mutual beneficial platform for ASEAN, particularly Malaysian entrepreneurs to be able to explore and gain insights into various business opportunities with the Chinese counterparts through strategic networking, sharing sessions, awareness workshops and trade forums in order to further tap and advance into Asia’s largest market. He further emphasized that the ACE Conference would formally take place in May 2016 in Sarawak and wished to have more entrepreneurs from ASEAN and China to take part.
H.E. Ybhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, Secretary-General of Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Dr. Dewi Motik Proamono, Advisory Council Representative of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Lim Boh Soon, Founder Chairman of Arise Asset Management Pte Ltd. of Singapore, Mr. Mouavixay Palee, Deputy Director for Trade and Investment Division (TID) of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Dr. Long Junsheng, Professor from Peking University, Datuk Seri Nelson Kwok, President of Malaysia Retail Chain Association and Founder of Nelson’s Franchise of Malaysia, Mr. Ruhizan Idis, Director of Malaysian Investment Development Authority, attended the opening ceremony and delivered keynote speeches at the Forum of “Exploring Business Opportunities”.
More than 270 participants from public and private sectors of Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore as well as China attended the Workshop.
