ACC Secretary-General Participated in the Annual Council Meeting of China-Myanmar Friendship Association

On 6 January 2016, the 1st Council Meeting of 2nd Governing Board of China-Myanmar Friendship Association (CMFA) was held in Beijing. Mrs. Lin Yi, Vice-Chairman of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Mr. Geng Zhiyuan, Chairman of China-Myanmar Friendship Association (CMFA), and Mr. Peng Fang, Vice-Chairman of CMFA participated in the meeting. H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), participated in the Meeting and delivered a speech.

Themed on "Sharing Love and Compassion", the Meeting briefly reviewed the work of CMFA since resuming establishment in 2011, especially in the year of 2015, and looked forward to the work direction of the 2nd Governing Board, as well as main tasks in 2016. The board members exchanged views and discussed the future development of CMFA and proposed concrete ideas and proposals.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping in her remarks praised CMFA's efforts in promoting friendly exchanges between the people of the two countries. She reviewed the achievements of ACC with CMFA in promoting cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. She stated that ACC was the bridge to promote ties between the governments of China and ASEAN Member States, as well as an envoy of the two sides in people-to-people exchanges. She further added that the year of 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, as well as the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange. ACC would continue to work with CPAFFC and CMFA, promote partnership between enterprises of both countries, help establish a platform to promote high quality education for a better future, work hand-in-hand to deepen China-Myanmar relations, thus, contribute to deepening ASEAN-China cooperation.

After the meeting, Secretary-General Yang participated in the 2016 New Year reception hosted by CMFA, and exchanged views with H.E. Mr. Thit Linn Ohn, Ambassador of Myanmar to China and other participants, and introduced ACC’s role and work in 2015.
