ACC Secretary-General Met with Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR

On 21 January 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with H.E. Mr. Chaleune Warinthrasak, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping congratulated Lao PDR’s assumption of ASEAN Chairmanship in 2016. She believed that with the joint efforts of Lao PDR and other ASEAN countries, the building of ASEAN Community and the development of ASEAN-China relations would achieve new progress. She said that ACC attached great importance to the exchanges and cooperation with Lao PDR and had successfully organized a series of activities last year, such as trade and investment mission of Chinese entrepreneurs to Lao PDR, Chinese tourism media’s coverage on tourism resources along Road No. 13, etc. These activities were highly anticipated and appreciated by the local people and business community. Secretary-General Yang said that in last October, she paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Bosengkham Vongdara, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR, and exchanged views on ACC’s cooperation with Lao PDR in the fields of tourism, culture and infrastructure building. She also expressed that ACC would continue its efforts to deepen the relations between China and Lao PDR as well as China and ASEAN this year. 

Deputy Minister Warinthrasak thanked ACC for its assistance and support to Lao PDR. He said that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Lao PDR and China had been cemented, while ASEAN-China functional cooperation achieved tangible results. In 2015, the number of Chinese visitors to Lao PDR reached 400,000, which promoted people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries and boosted the development of local economy and society. As ASEAN Chair, Lao PDR would try its best to host a series of important activities. It was expected that ACC would continue to render its support to the Lao side on conducting tourism promotion and to encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Lao PDR.
