On 25 January 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping made a courtesy call on Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Director of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat, in Bangkok. Secretary-General Yang Xiuping expressed her appreciation to SEAMEO and Dr. Gatot for their great support to ACC. She said that ACC had, in close collaboration with SEAMEO, successfully carried out a series of well-received activities in vocational education, educational research, students’ exchange and teachers’ training. 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange. The recent establishment of the ASEAN Community had offered new opportunities for both sides to expand and deepen cooperation in the field of education. ACC was ready to strengthen communication with SEAMEO and actively participate in the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW). ACC would also join efforts with SEAMEO to conduct more projects and events to push forward the ASEAN-China educational exchanges to a new stage.

Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto commended ACC’s efforts in promoting the educational exchange between both sides and was pleased with the outcomes of ASEAN-China educational cooperation. He briefed on SEAMEO’s course of development and achievements since its foundation in 1965 and SEAMEO’s current focuses of work. He opined that SEAMEO expected, in the Year of ASEAN-China Educational Exchange, to have closer coordination and cooperation with ACC, build new bridges, and explore new collaborative projects, so as to contribute to promoting ASEAN-China educational exchange and cooperation, and to fostering the economic and social development of both sides.
