On 26 January 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with Dato Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Yusof, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei. Mr. Fu Fengshan, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei attended the meeting.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping expressed her gratitude for the continued support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei to ACC. She said that 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of Brunei-China diplomatic relations and ASEAN-China dialogue relations. There would benew opportunities to deepen the bilateral strategic cooperative relationship and ASEAN-China relations. Both sides should make concerted efforts in this regard. Secretary-General Yang briefly introduced ACC’s work andits work plan this year, and listened to the opinions and recommendationsfrom the Brunei side.
Deputy Minister Erywan and Deputy Permanent Secretary Tutiaty highly commended the abundant work done and achievements made by ACC for promoting Brunei-China and ASEAN-China functional cooperation. They said that Brunei had attached great importance to Secretary-General Yang’s visit to Brunei. It was hoped that through this visit ACC would have a better understanding of the work and cooperation needs of the relevant Ministries of Brunei including resource, trade, investment, tourism, education and culture etc. Brunei side hoped that ACC would continue to play a bridging role, encourage more Chinese people to invest in Brunei and carry out projects in tourism promotion, capacity building and cultural exchanges, so that the two countries would better know the economic and social development of each other, and boost exchanges and cooperation in wider areas for mutual benefit.
