The 2016 Chinese Jingpo Ethnic Group international Festival was successfully held in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province from 22 to 24 February 2016. Member of CPC Yunnan provincial standing Committee and General-Director of United Front Work Department of Yunnan Province Mr. Huang Yi, Secretary-General of CPC Dehong Committee Mr. Wang Junqiang, Governor Mr. Gong Jingzheng, Consul-General of Myanmar in Kunming Mr. U Aung Kyaw Oo, representatives from Thailand and Lao PDR participated the opening ceremony. Representatives from ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), officer from Education Culture and Tourism Division (ECTD) Mr. Liu Xiaohu attended this event.
This year’s event was co-hosted by the CPC Dehong Committee and People’s Government of Dehong State. Secretary-General Mr. Wang Junqiang said, in his remarks, that the Jingpo Ethnic Group International Festival served as a platform to protect the outstanding national culture, enhance national unity, promote the development of culture and tourism industry, as well as introduce Dehong’s ethnic culture to the world. Dehong State would take this opportunity to upgrade its reputation and popularity, and to further promote the healthy and rapid development of its social and economy.
The Jingpo Ethnic Group International Festival, which is normally around 15 January of the Chinese Lunar New Year, is the most grand annual festival of Jingpo Ethnic Minority, on which Jingpo people will praise their auspiciousness and happiness and celebrate the good harvest. During the festival, Jingpo people will dress in their national costume and dance under the guidance of their headman, their winding dancing route represents the migration route of the Jingpo ancestor from the north to the south across China. This festival has been included in the first batch of China national intangible cultural heritage.
This event fully demonstrats the long history, rich and colorful folk culture and art, and the resourceful costume and food culture of China ethnic minorities. A serious of event are also held during the festival as contests of ethnic cuisine and brocade, exhibitions of folk culture and arts, as well as a ethnic carnival party. Delegations from Myanmar participated in these events.
