On 23 February 2016, the 4th ACC-SEAMEO-CAECW Tripartite Meeting was held in Guiyang International Eco-Conference Centre. The delegations, respectively led by Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Secretary-General Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjan of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and Executive Secretary-General Mr. Liu Baoli of China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), participated in the meeting. Executive Secretary-General Liu Baoli chaired the meeting.
The Tripartite Meeting discussed a number of areas for cooperation in preparation for the upcoming 9th CAECW and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange, and reached common consensus.
Vice Secretary-General Yang Yong, on behalf of CAECW secretariat, introduced on the theme, preliminary proposals and other ideas for the 9th CAECW. Dr. Gatot briefly introduced the development of SEAMEO, and raised several initiatives to promote collaboration among members of the Tripartite.
Secretary-General Yang emphasized on the important role of the Tripartite cooperation mechanism in promoting ASEAN-China education exchange and since ACC's involvement in 2013. She emphasized that CAECW had become an important and most influential platform for ASEAN-China education exchange. The year 2016 was the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange. All the parties of the Tripartite should continue to play a contributive role, integrate its resources, and make joint efforts to realize the mandates of the Leaders of ASEAN and China. Secretary-General Yang further elaborated on ACC’s role and function, and said that ACC would be focusing on 19 flagship projects this year, among which 4 projects were related to educational exchanges. She hoped that the initiatives and various education activities would enhance mutual understanding and people-to-people connectivity. ACC was committed to working closer with the other two parties, and actively contribute to the year of educational exchange and the 9th CAECW, thus, promote sustainable and deepened ASEAN-China relations.
