On 5 February 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with Director General Dr. Hans Friederich and Deputy Director General Dr. Li Zhibo of International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) at ACC.
Dr. Friederich briefed on INBAR’s mandate and its Member States. He mentioned that as the main producing area for bamboo and rattan, Southeast Asia had rich experience in managing and utilizing bamboo and rattan. Currently, five out of the ten ASEAN countries were Members of INBAR, and had played very important role in the organization. He appreciated ACC’s effort in promoting ASEAN-China functional cooperation, and hoped that INBAR could strengthen cooperation with ACC in co-organizing activities which might facilitate ASEAN and other countries in the area of bamboo and rattan.
Secretary-General Yang conveyed her festive greetings to Dr. Friederich and Dr. Li Zhibo. She introduced ACC’s work in promoting functional cooperation in the five priority areas of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. She said that in 2016 ACC would conduct 19 flagship projects and a series of colourful activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange. She remarked that ACC and INBAR were both inter-governmental organizations, and had broad prospects for cooperation. The two organizations should enhance their communication and experience sharing, explore for possible cooperation and therefore bring benefits to the people in this region and around the world.
