ACC Secretary-General Met with Deputy Mayor of Chengdu

On 15 March 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with Mr. Zhu Zhihong, Deputy Mayor of Chengdu. Mr. Gao Jianjun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Municipal Government of Chendgdu, and Mr. Lu Sheng, Director of the Office of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of Chengdu, was present at the meeting.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping briefed on the mandates of ACC, saying that ACC was devoted to implementing the consensus reached by the Leaders of both sides and supportive of the construction of the ASEAN Community and the development of the ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership. Since its inception, ACC had played an active role in promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in the five areas of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. It also helped strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the people of both sides through projects in information and public relations. 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange, affording new opportunities to the relations of both sides. Chengdu enjoyed superb location advantages and good foundation in opening to the outside world and international cooperation. ACC looked forward to strengthening communication with Chengdu and serving as a bridge to facilitate exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN and Chengdu so as to push forward ASEAN-China relations.

Deputy Mayor Zhu Zhihong thanked ACC for rendering great support tocooperation between ASEAN and Chengdu. He said that Chengdu, as the commercial and financial centre and communication hub of western China, maintained sound momentum for cooperation with ASEAN countries in trade, investment, social-culture etc., with broader prospects. Chengdu wished to work more closely with ACC, taking the opportunity of the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange and make joint efforts to elevate functional cooperation between ASEAN and Chengdu in various fields to a new level so as to make more contributions to the development of ASEAN-China relations.
