On 15 March 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Consul-General of Singapore in Chengdu H.E. Mr. Gan Teng Kiat and Consul-General of Thailand in Chengdu H.E. Mr. Komate Kamalanavin.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping said that ACC co-hosted the China Bee Products Industry Conference (CBPIC) and the ASEAN-China Bee Products Industry Cooperation Forum in Chengdu from 15 to 16 March 2016. ACC would like to take this opportunity to strengthen communication with the Consul-Generals to seek opinions and suggestions for ACC’s work.
Secretary-General Yang briefed on ACC’s mandate and work, saying that 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange and the first year of the establishment of the ASEAN Community. ACC would make consistent efforts in innovative and pioneering spirit to carry out 19 flagship projects in 2016 to make new contributions to promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism and information. Consulate-Generals of the two countries were tasked with enhancing cooperation with Chinese local governments and had done tremendous work and made remarkable achievements in this regard. ACC hoped to get continued support from the Consulate-Generals, and would make joint efforts to promote cooperation between ASEAN and Sichuan Province, Chongqing and relevant Chinese provinces for new fruition.
Consul-General Gan Teng Kiat and Consul-General Komate Kamalanavin thanked Secretary-General Yang for the meeting. They applauded ACC’s efforts to promote ASEAN-China functional cooperation and expressed confidence in the future development of ASEAN-China relations. They opined that the establishment of the ASEAN Community had instilled fresh impetus to the progress of ASEAN-China relations and people-to-people exchanges. The Governments of Sichuan Province and Chengdu attached great importance to cooperation with ASEAN countries including Singapore and Thailand, and had held many colourful activities which were well received. The Consulate-Generals hoped to enhance contact and communication with ACC and Chinese provincial and municipal governments so as to deepen the sound development of Singapore-China, Thailand-China and ASEAN-China relations for the benefits of the people.
