On 13 May 2016, the Regional Seminar on “ SEA-HiEd 2016: Digitalisation Era for University Education” was held in Mandalay, Myanmar. The Seminar was hosted by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED) and participated by the senior administrators of universities and high level educational officials from ASEAN countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Republic of Korea. Representatives from SEAMEO RIHED partners including ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and European Union Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE) were also invited to attend the Seminar.
Dr. Thein Win, Director General, Higher Education Department of Ministry of Education of Myanmar delivered a welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony. Dr. Youngwha Kee, President of National Institute for Lifelong Education of the Republic of Korea and Dr. Vilas Wuwongse, Professor of Mahidol University of Thailand delivered the keynote address. Speakers from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam shared their experiences and best practices on the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in university teaching-learning and discussed the challenges facing the area of higher education as well as the way forward in the context of digitalisation era.
