ACC Participated in the 37th Meeting of the GMS Tourism Working Group

On 4 July 2016, the 37th Meeting of GMS Tourism Working Group was held in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. The Meeting was co-hosted by Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) and Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia. It was participated by officials from Ministry of Tourism or National Tourism Administration of Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. Representatives from Asian Development Bank (ADB), ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) were also invited to attend the meeting.

The outcomes of the 36th Meeting of GMS Tourism Working Group  were reported in the documents of the Meeting. Participants from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Thailand briefed the meeting on the updates of the projects each country implemented to improve regional tourism planning. Representative from China briefed the Meeting on the preparation of the 38th Meeting of GMS Tourism Working Group. The participants also exchanged views on the Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Strategy 2016-2025 including the vision, strategic planning guiding principles and timetable for the Final Strategy.

Ms. Zhao Lin, Officer of General Affairs and Coordination Division represented ACC to brief the Meeting on ACC’s mandate, work and contribution to promote and raise the profile of ASEAN tourism as well as facilitate ASEAN-China exchanges and cooperation in the area of tourism.

The 38th Meeting of GMS Working Group will be held in November 2016 in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
