On 11 July 2016, the Reception and Gala Performance to commemorate the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations were held in Jakarta. H.E. Mr. Xu Bu, Ambassador of China to ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Arief Yahya, Minister of Tourism of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Tan Heng Seng, Permanent Representative of Singapore to ASEAN, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Permanent Representatives of other countries to ASEAN, and representatives of diplomatic missions to Indonesia, Chinese enterprises and the media totaling about 600 people attended the reception, and an audience of more than 1000 people watched the performance.
Ambassador Xu reviewed the significant achievements of ASEAN and China since the establishment of dialogue relations between the two sides. He expressed that, ASEAN-China relations had become the strongest and among the most active ASEAN dialogue relations, and played a leading role in East Asia cooperation. Against the backdrop of profound changes of international and regional situations, maintaining the direction of friendly and mutual beneficial cooperation was the common mission of China and ASEAN. China and ASEAN should continue to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, enhance mutual trust on political security and strengthen the connectivity of development strategy, tap the potential of production capacity, and take full advantages of Lancang-Mekong River cooperation, so as to provide mutually beneficial impetus to the overall cooperation between China and ASEAN.
Ambassador Tan Heng Seng said, since the establishment of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, the two sides had carried out fruitful cooperation in political, trade, economic and cultural fields. China is one of the most important partners of ASEAN and had played an important role in regional cooperation mechanism. As the coordinating country of ASEAN-China relations, Singapore would strengthen cooperation with China and conduct joint efforts to move forward the construction of ASEAN Community as well as the development of ASEAN-China relations. He also expressed his special thanks to ASEAN-China Centre for its important contributions to promote pragmatic cooperation between ASEAN and China.
Secretary-General Le Luong Minh spoke highly of the achievements in the development of ASEAN-China relations. He said that the two sides should take the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations as an opportunity to further strengthen all level communication, enhance political mutual trust, and promote the construction of free trade areas, the interconnection and pragmatic cooperation in maritime and culture areas. The ASEAN Secretariat would continue to work closely with the Chinese side and further strengthen its mechanism and capacity building, enhance ASEAN-China relations to a new level, and jointly promoting peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world.
Following the remarks, Secretary-General Yang Xiuping joined Ambassador Xu Bu, Secretary-General Le Luong Minh, Minister Arief Yahya, Ambassador Tan Heng Seng and other permanent representatives to ASEAN to cut the celebration cake and take group photos. At the reception, Secretary-General Yang interacted with distinguished guests and introduced the work of ACC. She emphasized that ACC would like to keep close contact with China and ASEAN countries to promote pragmatic cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges and push forward the in-depth development of ASEAN-China relations. Secretary-General Yang also accepted media interviews on ASEAN-China cultural exchanges and cooperation.
After the reception, the guests were enticed with the Gala Performance at Ciputra Artpreneur Theatre. The performance was co-hosted by ACC, Chinese Mission to ASEAN and Permanent Mission of Singapore to ASEAN and co-organized by China Guangxi University of Arts and ASEAN Finance Agency. Performing arts troupes from China Guangxi University of Arts, Hui Ladies Arts Troupe of Anhui Qipao Association, Quintet Band of Philippines and Indonesia Dance Troupe performed on the same stage, presenting colorful and diverse performing arts of both China and ASEAN. The brilliant performance won rounds of applause and delighted the whole audience.
