ACC Secretary-General Met with Secretary of Justice of the Government of HKSAR

On 28 July 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Mr. Rimsky Yuen, Secretary of Justice of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Mr. Wesley Wai-chung Wong, Solicitor General, and Mr. Lee Pak-sing, Deputy Law Officer of the Department of Justice of the Government of HKSAR attended the meeting.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping commended the achievements of Hong Kong-ASEAN cooperation. She gave a brief on the development of ASEAN-China relations and ACC’s efforts to promote functional cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism and media, including organizing business trips of Chinese enterprises to ASEAN countries, facilitating the establishment of ASEAN Commercial Centre, hosting youth summer camp, ASEAN students’ sports games, arts exhibition, cultural performance, media exchanges, etc. ACC was willing to strengthen contacts with the HKSAR Government, constantly enrich the contents of Hong Kong-ASEAN and ASEAN-China cooperation, elevate cooperation level, so as to contribute to the social and economic development of the region and let tangible results of cooperation benefit more people. 

Secretary of Justice Rimsky Yuen praised ACC for its hard efforts to promote ASEAN-China functional cooperation. He said that Hong Kong attached importance to its relations with ASEAN. ASEAN, with over 600 million population, was a huge market, and ASEAN’s development had positive significance to Hong Kong’s economic development. Hong Kong had rich legal experience in international trade and finance. The international community recognized and trusted the legal system in Hong Kong. With more Chinese enterprises “going out” and ASEAN enterprises “coming in”, Hong Kong could play its unique role and provide professional counseling service to enterprises of ASEAN and China. It was believed that Hong Kong-ASEAN cooperation would embrace more opportunities for development in the future. The HKSAR Government would like to further enhance contact with ACC, promote Hong Kong-ASEAN cooperation, create a sound business environment and facilitate the building of the Belt and Road.
