On 1 August 2016, during the 9th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week in Guiyang, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) received a joint interview by People’s Daily Online, Guizhou Radio and Television Station, Contemporary Guizhou magazine, Western Development Report and other media, and introduced ACC’s work to promote exchanges and cooperation in education, culture and other fields.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping said, this year marks the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the Year of ASEAN-China Educational Exchange. Education concerned the future generation, people’s livelihood and national development. Support and involvement of the whole society were needed. ASEAN and China had achieved fruitful results in education cooperation, and should further align their development plans. With the favorable opportunity presented by the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative and the official launch of the ASEAN community, ASEAN and China should further promote education exchange and cooperation to make even greater contributions to uplift the economic and social development, improve people's welfare and deepen ASEAN-China strategic partnership.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping said, ACC put education as the priority area. There are 4 projects involving education in ACC’s 19-flagship annual work plan. ACC had organized a series of meaningful activities, including the competition to design the Logo for the ASEAN-China Educational Exchange Year. China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week had become an important platform for humanity exchange. This year, ACC would co-sponsor or support 8 activities covering higher education, youth exchange, TVET, traditional medicine education, and production capacity cooperation. ACC was willing to strengthen communication with Guizhou province, taking the opportunity of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, to further promote ASEAN-China education cooperation to a new level. Secretary-General Yang Xiuping looked forward to the continuous coverage by the media on the achievements of ASEAN-China education cooperation.
