On 2 August 2016, the 2nd China-ASEAN Education Ministers Roundtable Conference was held in Guiyang International Eco-Conference Center. H. E. Mr. Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education of China, Education Ministers or representatives of ASEAN Countries, representatives of ASEAN Secretariat and UNESCO attended the conference. H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), was invited to attend.
Minister of Education Chen Baosheng give an introduction on the development of education in China. He said, ASEAN and China have achieved fruitful results in the field of education cooperation in recent years. This year marks the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, which has entered a new stage of “Diamond Decade”. Looking into the future, strengthening exchanges and cooperation in education would serve as the priority in building the new pillars of ASEAN-China relations and would exert continuous impetus to the expanding of ASEAN-China relations. Ministry of Education of China would like to work along with ASEAN countries, upholding the idea of open-up cooperation and mutual benefit, to construct jointly a diversified education cooperation mechanism to facilitate flexible cooperation process and build exemplary cooperation project, so as to meet the need of all countries and promote common development.
ASEAN Ministers or representatives briefed the conference and exchanged ideas on the current education situation, education reform, strategy and challenges of talents cultivation. They spoke highly of the Chinese government for actively promoting educational exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN.
The conference passed ASEAN-China Educational Cooperation Activity Supporting ASEAN Educational Work Plan (2016-2020) Joint Communique. ASEAN-China Educational Cooperation Work Plan (2016-2020) is the first Five-Year Action Plan between ASEAN and China on educational exchange and cooperation, covering areas including primary education, higher education, vocational education, student exchange and think tanks collaboration.
