ACC Secretary-General Met with Vice Chairman of Thai Chamber of Commerce

On 31 August 2016,  ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with Mr. Phairush Burapachaisri, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok. 

Secretary-General Yang introduced the progress of ASEAN-China trade and economic cooperation, saying that ASEAN and China were good partners of mutual benefit and win-win outcome. ASEAN-China trade volume increased significantly from nearly 8 billion USD in 1991 to 472.2 billion USD in 2015. China was ASEAN’s largest trading partner, and ASEAN was China’s third largest trading partner. Accumulated mutual investment by May 2016 reached 160 billion USD. ASEAN was the main destination for overseas investment of China. By the end of 2015, the negotiations on upgrading ASEAN-China FTA were concluded, bringing the level of trade and investment facilitation to a higher level.

Secretary-General Yang briefed on ACC’s mandate and efforts to promote trade and investment cooperation. For example, ACC had organized trade and investment missions to ASEAN countries, set up ASEAN commercial centre in China, actively promoted production capacity and e-commerce cooperation. ACC would like to strengthen communication with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, explore cooperation so as to instill new impetus to ASEAN-China trade and investment cooperation.

Vice Chairman Phairush introduced the mandate and main work of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The Thai Chamber of Commerce attached great importance to economic cooperation with China and attended the CAEXPO for many years. He commended ACC’s work, and expected ACC to facilitate more Chinese enterprises to invest in Thailand. The Thai Chamber of Commerce would like to explore cooperation with ACC in areas such as education, traditional medicine, acupuncture, young entrepreneurs, etc., with a view to promoting the healthy development of trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and  China.
