Secretary-General Yang Xiuping meets with Chairman of SUNWAH Group of Hong Kong

On 2 September 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Dr. Jonathan Koon-shum Choi, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chairman of SUNWAH Group of Hong Kong, at ACC Secretariat.

Vice Chairman Choi gave a brief introduction on CPPCC Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports Committee and SUNWAH Group. He said that SUNWAH Group attached great importance to ASEAN market, kept expanding business in Viet Nam, Cambodia and Myanmar, and deepened cooperation with local partners. Meanwhile, the Group actively participated in social welfare undertakings, sponsored the Chinese Teaching and Research Centre, China Research Institute and Confucius Forum in ASEAN countries, and devoted itself to making contributions to ASEAN-China people-to-people exchange. As a Hong Kong enterprise, SUNWAH Group followed closely ASEAN-China relations and looked forward to seeing Hong Kong play a bigger role in it. He expressed his willingness to strengthen communication with ACC and through various platforms established by ACC to further promote collaboration with ASEAN countries in trade, investment, education, culture, and tourism.  

Secretary-General Yang said that, as the inter-governmental organization co-established by the governments of 10 ASEAN Member States and China, ACC had dedicated to promoting friendly communication and functional cooperation between the two sides. Serving as a one-stop information and activities centre, ACC would continue to strengthen its relations with the people from all walks of life, and function as a bridge to deepen ASEAN-China pragmatic cooperation. She hoped that CPPCC Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports Committee and SUNWAH Group could support ACC’s work as always, and make joint efforts with ACC to enhance all-round and in-depth development of ASEAN-China relations, so as to bring more benefits to the people of both sides.
